How I can help your company
In addition to performing the traditional technical writing tasks such as writing a variety of technical documents (product manuals, installation guides, technical specifications, processes, procedures, and reports), I go a quantum leap further with skills required to distribute those deliverables using state-of-the-art web-based platforms.
Most technical writers write, edit, review, release, and revise publications. To do this correctly takes a lot of work, but it's the standard stuff technical writers do. Where I'm unique is my extended skill set that takes me beyond the traditional roles of a technical writer.
Core capabilities
- Excellent technical publication project management, technical writing, and team collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to write world-class technical publications for global 500 technology companies.
- Experienced in interacting with diverse staff including engineers, technicians, technical illustrators, and all levels of management.
- Adhere to a high standard of professional conduct at the corporate and personal level.
Extended capabilities
- Ability to effectively evaluate, select, and use the best information structure and tools for technical publication projects. To effectively manage a large volume of technical documentation, the information needs to be in a single-source authoring and publishing environment where the content can be dynamically delivered in multiple channels. This means the content can be authored in one place, but published to PDF, XPS, MS WordTM, FrameMaker®, DITA, HTML, Microsoft® HTML Help, DotNet Help, and even to mobile platforms such as iPhone OS, Windows Mobile, Android, and BlackBerry.
- Ability to evaluate, design, and implement sophisticated systems that result in dynamic publication delivery using web-based technologies and platforms. This typically involves database-backed document search and retrieval systems that are searchable and globally accessible (but with an appropriate level of security controls when needed) using the internet or intranet and standard web browsers.
- Web development skills including HTML, XML, CSS, and functional web application development capabilities.
- Owned and operated a small web site development and hosting company for over 10 years.
In summary, I'm a technical writer who can perform the traditional writing tasks in a world-class way and work effectively with your IT department because I speak their language. This allows me to be a highly productive member of a team that produces truly outstanding results in a team environment.

Kevin Fruendt, Principal Firmware Engineer, Seagate Technology
“Under Larry's leadership at Seagate, the technical publications group consistently met project deadlines and found innovative ways to communicate deliverables. He enjoys finding solutions to challenges and finds cost-effective ways of delivering the results.
Larry often sought additional responsibilities and extended his sphere of influence to areas that benefited from his skills. For example, he volunteered to contribute to Seagate's re-entry to the retail market by writing the content for a wide variety of retail deliverables including box copy, user's guides, marketing collateral, and even designed the HTML-based graphical interface for the first CD included in the retail disk drive kits.
He also contributed as an additional resource to the global web development group by managing the technical specifications for products listed on seagate.com and wrote feature articles for Seagate's primary global sales and marketing materials.
He seeks and accepts project ownership and is able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personality types including engineers, software developers, technical support staff, and all levels of management. He takes pride in his work and likes being a part of successful teams.”
